Renowned artist Rafiqun Nabi received Hamidur Rahman Award 2013 on Saturday at the Bengal Foundation.
Family members of the late Hamidur Rahman, the designer of the Central Shaheed Minar, introduced the award in 2007 in memory of the great artist. Each year an eminent artist of the country is honoured with this prestigious award. The overall supervision for the artist selection and award giving ceremony each year is conducted by Bengal Foundation.
Educationist professor Borhan Uddin Khan Jahangir was present as the chief guest to hand over the award to Rafiqun Nabi. Artist Qyauum Chowdhury and Syed Jahangir delivered speech on the occasion.
Rafiqun Nabi is one of the noteworthy artists of the country. He is mainly credited for his works on real happenings in everyday life. His signature cartoon character ‘Tokai’ (a street boy) engraved a long-lasting mark in the country’s history of satirical cartoon works. Nabi is also famous for his experimental painting.
