Italy based Bangladeshi artist A Rahman depicts elements of nature on his abstract and semi-abstract artworks, which are on display at his solo show at the Bengal Shilpalaya in Dhanmondi.
The exhibition titled Gravity-Free World features 62 paintings and sketches in different mediums including mixed media, digital print and pencil sketches that depict the spirit of natural world and the reality of human existence.
‘I have dealt with the existence of birds, animals and human beings in my artworks at the exhibition, which is my seventh solo show,’ said Rahman to New Age about Gravity-Free World.
The artworks of Rahman are vividly colorful which easily arrest the attention of the visitors. In one of the artworks titled On Unidentified Plateau-13, Rahman has depicted watery marks of colours like blue, yellow, pink and others on a dark background. The mixed media on canvas painting has a unique 3D quality that makes the visitors stop and ponder about the painting for a while.
Digital paint on canvas artwork titled Gravity Free Walk depicts a man walking along a road. However, the figure of the man is distorted as the image has been captured through a thick lens which gives the figure a distorted yet funny look.
As a skilled artist, A Rahman does not confine himself to any particular medium and tries his hand in working with an array of mediums in his artistic endeavour. He has made some eye-catching pencil sketches on paper. The sketch titled Laws of Nature illustrates simple yet beautiful sketches of birds flying in the sky, fish like figures and different plants that show his love for nature.
‘I am a nature lover and I have always tried to understand the mysteries of nature and portray the natural beauties in my artworks,’ said Rahman.
Inaugurated on January 18, the exhibition will remain open for everybody from 12:00 to 8:00pm till January 31.
