Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) general secretary Khaza Rahmatullah on Wednesday said he is ready to resign from his post only if anyone can prove any corruption against him.
Four clubs – Mohammedan SC, Dhaka Mariner Youngs, Wari Club and Bangladesh Sporting Club – have been demanding the resignation of Rahmatullah saying that his election in July 2013 was ‘illegal’.
The rebel clubs continued to boycott the premier hockey league under his committee which created the stalemate in hockey.
It was speculated that the BHF general secretary was going to resign from his post to put an end to the lengthy stalemate when he called a press conference on Wednesday. But Rahamatullah refused to bow down to the pressure from the rebel clubs.
‘For a few days, a group of people has brought allegations against me but without any specific allegation,’ said Rahmatullah. ‘I won’t hesitate to resign from my post if they can prove that I am involved with corruption, nepotism or damage of the hockey.’
Rahmatullah claimed that the hockey federation in last three years held 50 programmes that included hosting domestic and international tournaments, participation in international tournaments, arranging refreshers and training courses.
Asked when the premier league will roll into the ground this season, Rahmatullah said, ‘We will soon communicate with the deputy sports minister [Arif Khan] and follow the instructions whatever we get from him.’
