Former Indian spinner Venkatapathy Raju said on Tuesday that he was expecting to provide inputs that would help Bangladeshi spinners keep their calm under pressure.
Raju began his six-day specialised spin bowling camp designed for High Performance programme of the Bangladesh Cricket Board at Mipur on Tuesday.A total of 25 spinners, including members of the preliminary national squad, have been called up to attend the camp.
‘Its all about rhythm and how comfortable they
are with it,’ Raju told reporters after completing his opening session with cricketers. ‘Basically we don’t want to change their natural style.’
Raju said that he will put his emphasis on the mental side as young spinners tend to get carried away under pressure.
‘Every bowler once they grow and come against better batsmen tends to become tensed. We tell them how to relax and bowl with your basics.
‘Now it is more of planning because you are playing Twenty20, 50-over match and Test matches and with each format there are so many restrictions. There are power play and so many other things.’
Raju insisted that he is keen to develop the spinners on getting more control over the ball as it would help them deceive their opponents through their variations.
‘We are asking them to relax and add little more variations,’ said Raju, who played who played 28 Tests and 53 one-day internationals, claiming 93 and 63 wickets respectively.
