Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakha on Monday ordered demolition of a three-storey building that titled towards a six-storey building near it at Demra in Dhaka.
The officials of the city development authorities said ‘Eva Manzil’ at Purba Hazinagar started slanting towards an adjacent six-storey building on Sunday. An authorised officer of RAJUK, Afsar Uddin, told reporters that the building started tilting in the early hours of Sunday.
He said that owner of the building was asked to demolish the structure to avoid any accident.
The Demra police officer-in-charge, M Moniruzzman, told New Age that gas and electricity connections to both the buildings had been disconnected on Sunday.
He also said the law enforcers already shut both the buildings for the inmates, and additional forces were around the structures.
A RAJUK team, led by Afsar Uddin, and magistrate Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan visited the risky buildings and found that Eva Manzil was constructed without any approval.
RAJUK asked the building owner, Mohammad Ali, to demolish it immediately.
A notice reading ‘tt is a risky structure and was built without RAJUK’s approval. No one is allowed to reside in it’ was put up by RAJUK outside buildings.
The building owner, who was living on the second-floor of the building, claimed that his brother-in-law constructed the building in 2000 as he was abroad.
