The holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims engage in self-purification through fasting and abstinence, begins in the country tomorrow as the new crescent moon was sighted this evening.
The announcement was made today (18 February) evening at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee in the conference room of the Islamic Foundation (IF) at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Muhammad Nizam Uddin, deputy director of Public Relations at IF, confirmed to BSS.
Nizam Uddin said the moon was sighted in Netrokona, Sirajganj and Cox’s Bazar districts this evening.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk, observing a time of spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and devotion. The month, which marks the ninth in the Islamic calendar, is dedicated to prayer, charity, and deepened religious commitment.
All government, semi-government and private offices have arranged new office schedule.
Following the moon sighting on Tuesday in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries, Ramadan has already commenced in those nations.
