Sakib al Hasan and Abdur Razzak will have a chance to achieve personal milestones and give their fans something extra to cheer about in the five-match one-day international series against Zimbabwe starting on December 1.
Razzak, already the leading wicket-taker for the country, is just one wicket shy of becoming the first Bangladeshi to take 150 ODI wickets while Sakib needs two more appearances to accomplish his 100th ODI.
Razzak has so far claimed 149 wickets in 107 one-dayers and can realistically hope to achieve the milestone in the first match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on December 1.
The left-arm spinner was, however, humble and not too much interested in talking about the landmark.
‘What I have achieved is a thing of the past, I don’t usually think about records when I play. Even when I crossed the 100-wicket mark I had no idea until the media informed me,’ Razzak told reporters after the practice session on Friday.
‘When I play for my country I am more concerned about what I can accomplish for my country, and in the meantime if I achieve any personal milestone that is absolutely a good thing,’ Razzak added.
Razzak made his international debut in the 2004 Asia Cup and is one of the very few players who never got axed for bad performance. His career was interrupted twice but that only because of his suspected bowling action.
He was reported for a suspect action after his very first series, but he never looked back once he made the comeback. He was so consistent in his performance that Razzak got elevated to the eighth position in the ICC one-day rankings.
Mashrafee bin Murtaza will also have a fair chance to cross the coveted 150-wicket mark as he has already claimed 142 wickets in 112 one-day internationals.
