The Rajshahi City Corporation is going to launch ‘Rajshahi City University’ in the metropolitan area aimed at expanding the scope for higher education.
After getting approval from the local government ministry, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, mayor of the RCC and portfolio chairman of board of studies of the proposed university, handed over all documents to Nurul Islam Nahid, the education minister, at his office in the capital on Sunday.
Nahid lauded the initiative and assured him possible cooperation towards implementing the project.
Mayor said the university would be established for higher quality education. Only skilled, experienced and competent teachers would be appointed for imparting standard education.
‘We expect the foreign students will come to the university to acquire knowledge’, he added.
A total of 1,260 students will get chance for admission in 12 departments under five faculties at the initial stage.
The number of students would be increased up to 5,000 phase by phase. About 103 teachers would be appointed.
