Big Bash team Melbourne Renegades came forward to quench the thirst of Sakib al Hasan fans, posting his post-match interview on their official website and Facebook page, after broadcaster Star Sports-4 snubbed the Bangladesh all-rounder. Sakib won the man-of-the-match award against Brisbane Heats on Tuesday after a stunning performance that saw him claim 4-13, execute a run out and grab two catches.
However, the moment Sakib went to take his award Star Sports ended live broadcast of the match, leaving his countless fans disappointed.
It created a storm in the social media as many fans criticised the India-based broadcaster for undermining the Bangladeshi talisman. It did not go unnoticed by Renegades either.
‘For those watching on Star Sports yesterday, we’re aware you may have missed the post-match interviews. We have them for you though!,’ it said.
In the interview, Sakib expressed the importance to contribute for the team and was optimistic about improving his performance with the bat.
‘Obviously it feels great to contribute for the team and hopefully, I want to improve with the bat,’ he said.
Sakib, who recently ascended to the top all-rounder ranking in all three formats, said he wanted to continue his good performance with the Bangladesh team as well.
‘It feels different to be ranked no 1 all-rounder in all three formats of cricket as a Bangladeshi cricketer,’ said Sakib. ‘I want to continue my performance with Bangladesh and the other teams I play for.’ Sakib will end his campaign in the Big Bash with Renegades facing his former side Adelaide Strikers at the MCG on January 19.
