Participants in a human chain on Wednesday demanded imposition of immediate restrictions on the movement of illegal and unfit three-wheelers in the Barisal city.
They also threatened to start tougher programmes if their demands would go ignored.
The programme was organised by Barisal district easy-bike, auto-rickshaw, auto-tempo, baby-taxi, taxi-cab owners’ association in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall.
The association leaders said about 450 three-wheelers legally ply different roads and feeder routes of the city by taking permit and licence from the BRTA and other departments.
However, more than two thousand three-wheelers are operating without any legal documents, licences and fitness by bribing police and different departments.
Mobashwer Ali Khondokar, city president of the association, presided over the programme.
Among others M Rafikul Islam, city secretary, Saidur Rahman, Idris Ali, Uzzal Kundu, Kader Khan Rimon, city, district and upazila leaders of the association, Mizanur Rahman, member secretary of Barisal Nagarik Samaj, Barisal Bivagya Swartha Sanrakkhan Committee, addressed the programme.
