Rights activist concerned
The child rights activists of different non-government organisations have expressed their deep concern over how children are being victims of the current political unrest.
In a press statement published on Sunday, they said a good number of children died and received injuries in different political programmes in the last six months but the government did not take any action against the killers.
They mentioned that on December 9 a 10-year-old schoolboy, Alamgir Rahman Sumon, was shot dead in a gunfight between the police and opposition party activists in Sirajganj sadar.
The rights activists said such violence was unacceptable as, according to the Article-19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Child Policy 2011 and the Child act 2013, the governments were supposed to ensure safety and protection of the children.
They said though such brutality was continuing, the government did not take any action to stop such violence against children.
The child rights activists also demanded punishment of the miscreants who used and targeted children in political activities.
They requested the political parties to refrain from using children in their activities.
The activists also urged all to consider playgrounds and other places where children move as ‘safe area’.
They also urged people from all walks of life to raise their voice against the violence against children.
