Ritu Porna Chakma of the Bangladesh women’s football team suffered a head injury after colliding with a banner when the team was traveling in an open-top bus on Wednesday. The players had received a hero’s welcome upon their return.
Ritu Porna, who scored two goals while serving as a substitute during the unbeaten SAFF Women’s Championship campaign, required three stitches to her skull, according to a representative of the Bangladesh Football Federation.
Imran Hasan Tushar, the BFF executive who brought her to CMH after the accident, said Ritu Porna suffered the accident when her head hit an overhead banner in Nikunja in the capital. She required three stitches to her head at CMH and is now being taken to the BFF house to join the team in celebration.
The team was welcomed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the afternoon and then paraded through the streets of Dhaka on an improvised open-top bus which travelled to the BFF House in Motijheel following a four-hour journey.
