Rituparno Ghosh Film Retrospective began through the screening of film Unishey April on Thursday at the Indira
Gandhi Cultural Centre at Gulshan in the capital.
The centre has organised the retrospective as a tribute to recently demised noted Indian filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh. Three more of his movies, Utsab, Titli and Khela will be screened on three successive Thursdays.
Acting high commissioner of India in Bangladesh Sandeep Chakravorty, prominent film director Tanvir Mokammel, noted actor and managing director of BFDC Pijush Bandopadhyay, veteran journalist Abed Khan, among others, were present at the programme.
Sandeep Chakravorty, in his speech, said that Rituparno had succeeded to reach viewers even outside the spectrum of Bengali speaking movie lovers through the sheer quality of his films.
Tanvir Mokammel, on the other hand, recollected his association with Rituparno Ghosh and talked about how the latter was extremely particular on details in his films. He also touched on Rituparno’s excellence in depicting intricacies of relationships between two individuals.
Pijush Bandopadhyay recalled his telephonic conversation with Rituparno just a few days before his untimely death saying that Rituparno was due to visit Dhaka shortly. He also said that Rituparno instilled confidence in the minds of the next generation film directors of the next generations.
