The assistant nurses and employees of third and fourth grades went on an indefinite strike at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital on Monday,
demanding transfer of the personal assistant to the RMCH director.
Hundreds of protesting employees seized the office of the director since morning and held demonstrations to push for their demands.
They would continue their movement until their demand for the transfer of the PA, Ruhul Amin, is met.
The strikers said that Ruhul Amin harassed employees on different occasions. Many staff were transferred due at his instigation and concocted report on them.
Fourth class employees’ union president Shahidul Islam, general secretary Abraham Linkon, former president of the union Abdur Rouf Sarker and former general secretary Moklesur Rhaman and members Abdul Latif Sarker and Ashiqur Rhaman spoke at the rally.
The RMCH director, Golam Mustafa, said an emergency fax message had been sent to the director general of health in the morning seeking the transfer order and the DG transferred the PA to Rangpur Medical College at noon.
But the striking employees did not accept the office order and demanded his transfer at any outstation of Rangpur, the director added.
When asked about the healthcare services at RMCH, the director said about three hundred employees went on strike pushing for their demand. We formed emergency squad at the hospital to handle the ongoing crisis.
