At least nine people were killed and 34 others injured in separate road accidents in Sylhet, Munshiganj, Gazipur and Savar yesterday.
Our staff correspondent from Sylhet reports: Three persons including a mother and her son were killed and 30 others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in front of the Noapara Union Parishad Complex building early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Mariam Begum, 26, wife of Sanaul miah of village Lachar of Nabnagar upazila under Brahmanbaria district and her two-year-old son Mahbub Hasan and Shamsul Islam, 70, hailed from village Noakhai of Sunamganj.
Police said the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus, Newland Service, from Sunamganj skidded off the road and overturned in a roadside ditch at about 4:00am.
The injured were admitted to the Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex and Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
Our correspondent from Munshiganj reports: Three people were killed and two others critically wounded when a bus hit a private car on Dhaka-Mawa highway in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as South Miah, 22, an expatriate, and Islam Miah, 30, owner of the private car, and car driver Ravhovan Tarique, 25.
Critically injured Kawser, 20, brother of South and his friend Bolaram, 21, were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Mahbub Alam, officer-in-charge of Sirajdikhan Police Station, said the accident occurred at about 4:30am when the Dhaka-bound bus rammed through the private car near Char Kundalia of the upazila.
The victims were going to their home at Gopalpur village of the upazila from Shahjalal International Airport after South landed in Dhaka from Singapore, police said.
UNB from Gazipur adds: a garment worker was killed and two others were injured in separate road accidents early yesterday.
Sources said a truck knocked down garment worker Aminul Islam and his grand father-in-law Rafiqul Islam, 60, at Nogpara in Sadar upazila, leaving them seriously injured.
Doctors declared Aminul dead when he was taken to Sadar Hospital.
Police seized the truck but its driver and helper managed to escape.
Meanwhile, a factory worker was seriously injured as a truck hit him on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Shafipur in Kaliakoir upazila early yesterday.
The injured man was not identified immediately. He was admitted to a local hospital.
UNB from Savar reports : Two motorcyclists were killed as a truck hit their motorcycle on Nabinagar-Kaliakoir road at Kabirpur bus stand early yesterday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Police quoting witnesses said two people riding on a motorcycle met the tragic end of their life when a soil laden truck hit their motorbike at about 3:00am.
Police recovered the bodies and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
