At least nine people were killed and 25 others injured in separate road accidents in Cox’s Bazar, Mymensingh, Gaibandha, Benapole, Satkhira and Lamonirhat districts yesterday.
A correspondent from Cox’s Bazar reports: At least three people including two minor girls were killed and nine others injured in a road accident in Khodaibari area under Sadar upazila of the district yesterday afternoon.
Agitating locals barricaded the highway for half an hour, causing huge tailbacks in the road.
The deceased were identified as Akhi Moni, 4, daughter of Saber Ahmed, Nasima Akhter, 4, daughter of Amena Khatun and Mizanur Rahman, 18, son of Abul Kashem.
Sub-Inspector Anwar Hossain Khan of Eidgah Police Camp said the driver of a Cox’s Bazar bound microbus lost control over the steering and ran over pedestrians, leaving three people dead on the spot and injuring nine others.
Our correspondent from Mymensingh reports: At least two people were killed and five others injured in a road accident at Dhali Bazar on Mymensingh-Sherpur road under Phulpur Upazila yesterday.
The victims were identified as Mazed, 38, son of Idris Ali of Sreebordi area in Sherpur and Amanullah, 35, son of Akkas Ali of Khilgaon Bagicha in Dhaka.
Police said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch, killing Mazed on the spot and injuring six others.
Officer-in-Charge SA Alam of Phulpur Police Station said the injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where Amanullah, the bus driver, succumbed to his injuries.
Our correspondent from Gaibandha adds: One person was killed and eleven others were injured in a road accident at Gopinath in the district yesterday.
Police said the driver of a Thakurgaon-bound bus lost his control over the steering, hit a pedestrian and then rammed a roadside tree on Rangpur-Bogra Highway.
The unidentified pedestrian, aged 35, was killed on the spot and eleven passengers on board sustained injuries.
The bus driver and helper managed to flee.
A correspondent from Benapole reports: A youth was crushed under the wheels of a tractor at Sharsha upazila in Jessore district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Babu Ahmed, 30, son of Ranat Ali of Barun Hal village under Jhikargachha upazila.
Police said the accident occurred when the driver of a tractor lost control over the steering and ran over Babu at Matikumra bazar, leaving him dead on the spot.
Our correspondent from Satkhira reports: An old man was killed in a road accident near Eidgah area of Debhata upazila in the district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Nesar Ali Moral, 60, son of Babar Ali Moral of Shushilgati village in the upazila.
Police said the accident occurred when a motorcycle hit him from behind on Satkhira-Sakhipur road at around 8:00am.
He was rushed to Khulna Surgical Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Our correspondent from Lalmonirhat reports: A vegetable trader was killed in a road accident in Teesta Bazar area at Lalmonirhat sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Nur Islam, 40, son of Abul Hossain of Panchogram village at Lalmonirhat sadar upazila.
Police said a Rangpur-bound truck hit Nur on the Rangpur-Kurigram road under Lalmonirhat sadar upazila, killing him on the spot.
Local people caught the truck driver and handed him over to police.
