Opener Robiul Islam Robi scored his maiden first-class ton as defending champions Khulna reached 342-4 before brought early stumps on the third day of their National Cricket League match against Rangpur on Sunday. Chittagong were 11-0 in their second innings chasing 383 runs to win after Dhaka Metropolis declared their second innings at 169-6 with Marshall Ayub and Asif Hasan both scoring half-centuries at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
Rajshahi were 86-2 needing another 125 runs to win on the fourth day after Sylhet were dismissed for 162 runs in the second innings in a low-scoring game at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.
No play was possible on the third day between Dhaka and Barisal due to heavy rain at the Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox’s Bazar. Dhaka made 309-2 with both Rony Talukdar (121) and Saif Hasan (106 not out) scoring centuries.
Khulna v Rangpur
Replying to Rangpur’s 471 Khulna resumed third day’s play on 185-0 and their openers added another 66 runs before they finally lost a wicket with the scoreboard reading 251 runs.
Robi was the first man to get out after making exactly 100 off 220 balls including seven fours and one six while Anamul added 67 to his overnight 105 to stay unbeaten on 172.
With both teams yet to complete their first innings, the match is heading for a draw unless something happens on the final day.
Chittagong v Dhaka Metropolis
Resuming the third day on 12-2, Metro, who scored 344 in the first innings, added another 157 runs for the loss of four more wickets before declaring their innings on 169-6.
Middle-order batsman Marshall Ayub was the highest scorer for Metro by scoring an unbeaten 74 runs off 111 balls while number three batsman Asif Ahmed scored 57 runs off 119 balls.
Set a target of 383 runs, Chittagong saw off 3.4 overs they were allowed to bat without any damage.
Rajshahi v Sylhet
Bowled out for 79 runs in the first innings, Rajshahi made a massive turnaround when dismissed Sylhet for 162 runs in the second innings to give themselves a target of 211 runs.
They reached 86-2 at stumps with Jahirul Islam making 35 and Junaed Siddique remained not out on 28.
