Robi Axiata Ltd, one of the country’s four private sector cell phone operators, has posted a revenue earning of Tk 762.8 crore in the second quarter of 2011 registering an increase of 22 per cent over the corresponding period of last year.
Robi, formerly AKTEL, has also added some 12 lakh new subscribers during the period which is an increase of 9 per cent over the first quarter of this year.
This was revealed at a press conference at Robi headquarter in the city on Sunday.
Robi managing director and chief executive officer Michael Kuehner, chief financial officer Mahtabuddin Ahmed and chief marketing officer Bidyut Kumar Basu, among others, were present at the press conference.
In reply to a question, Mahtabuddin Ahmed said the majority portion of their license renewal fees will have to be collected from foreign sources and that is why it would need at least four to six months to collect the money.
‘It will be very difficult to collect the money from the internal market as there is a liquidity crisis. Against this circumstance, we, the four cell phone operators, have sought more time for license renewal,’ he said.
