Rony yet to be nabbed
The police on Friday picked up five people, including four associates of Rony Saha, who killed Champa Rani Saha at Madhukhali in Faridpur on October 26 after Champa had protested at his harassing her daughter.
Rony is yet to be arrested, four days inside the killing, although the police and Rapid Action Battalion are on the lookout for him.
The police, however, found established the identity of two others — Alamgir, 22 and Sanjay, 23 — who, along with Rony, were riding the motorcycle that was run into Champa Rani, an employee of the Faridpur Sugar Mills, near her house at Madhukhali. She died a few hours after the incident.
The police also picked up Rony’s uncle Gopal Saha.
The Madhukhali police officer-in-charge, Syed Mohsinul Hauqe, told New Age they had released Gopal Saha after interrogation.
He said four other young men — Shobhan Bhattacharya Tutul, 23, Shyamal Kumar Saha, 21, Saiful Islam Raju, 20, and Abul Hassan, 22 — were found to have links to Rony but they were not the main suspects.
Local lawmaker Abdur Rahman and Hasanul Haque Inu, also the president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, visited the house of Champa Rani on Friday morning.
Abdur Rahman and Hasanul Haque Inu handed over Tk 1 lakh to the family on behalf of the prime minister. They assured the family of bringing the killers to justice.
Abdur Rahman said the prime minister would take the responsibility for educational and other expenses of Hira Rani and her three sisters.
Former local BNP lawmaker Shah Mohammad Abu Zafar later at noon visited the family.
