Dhaka Theatre’s latest production Panchanari Akhyan will be staged tomorrow at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Panchanari Akhyan, written and directed respectively by Harun Rashid and Shahiduzzaman Selim, narrates pains, struggles and oppression on women in the male dominated society. In the play Rosey Siddique plays five imaginary characters from different strata of the society including the ghost of a rural girl, an actress who plays the role of extras in mainstream movies, a Hindu housewife, a divorced girl from Jamalpur and an aristocratic woman.
‘Monodrama like Panchanari Akhyan is really challenging as I’ve to frequently transform from one character to another,’ Rosey Siddique told New Age. Afzal Hossain has designed the set of the play featuring a huge human face at the centre of the backstage and hangers with women’s clothes at a corner.
Wasim Ahmed has designed the light.
Panchanari Akhyan has participated in different festivals in Bangladesh and had its premiere show in the USA.
