The music department of Rajshahi University on Sunday celebrated its 22nd founding anniversary amid enthusiasm and festivity on the campus.
RU vice-chancellor professor Golam Sabbir Sattar inaugurated the day-long programme by lighting a lamp and rendering the national anthem in front of the Syed Ismail Hossain Siraji Academic Building at about 9:30am.
Later, a dance performance titled ‘Anjali Lah More’ and a song performance titled ‘Aguner Parashmani Jalao Prane’ were performed.
At the programme, professor Golam Sabbir Sattar said that along with the country’s economic development, everyone should be involved in the fields of art, literature, and culture, and the music department could play an important role in that case.
He advised the music department to initiate a plan to establish a phonetic (sound) lab in the department, emphasising basic and theoretical study of music and its application.
Pro-vice-chancellor professor Sultan-Ul-Islam urged the department to fulfill the need for an educated mind in the field of music.
Among others, proctor professor Ashabul Hoque and public relations office administrator professor Pradip Kumar Panday were present at the inaugural ceremony, with music department chairman Shayla Tasmin in the chair.
