‘I was a regular artiste of Dhaka Theatre and wanted to become a film actor and thus worked in Uttam Akash’s Akheri Hamla in 1993. Since then, I’ve acted in 20 films and got appreciation for acting in Nasiruddin Yousuff’s Guerilla, Humayun Ahmed’s Shyamol Chhaya and Nargis Akter’s Poush Maser Piriti,’ Ahmed Rubel told New Age.

Despite his urge for continuing his career in films, Rubel restrained himself acting since his last appearance in Sadiq Ahmed’s The Last Thakur. ‘I stopped acting in films when I felt that the industry was falling down. It happened as the good producers are no longer investing money in the industry,’ observed Rubel.
‘The producers these days are more focused on making money and less focused on the artistic aspect of a film, as a result they are investing money on films that lack artistic values,’ explained the artiste.
‘So, I’m now concentrating more on teleplays and less on films but hope I will again go back to film if I get any good offers,’ Rubel said.
The actor, however, hopes good films are made frequently so that he can continue his career in films.
