The registrar of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology was relieved of his duty on Monday. Meanwhile, the suspended registrar, Abul Basar, alleged that the vice-chancellor Professor Mortuza Ali gave the order illegally in violation of the university rules.
Abul Basar told newsmen on Monday that a group of teachers and officials, backed by the VC, went to his officer and handed over to him the suspension letter and took his acknowledgment signature.
‘As I was not going by the illegal orders of the VC regarding appointment
process of employees and teachers, he suspended me unilaterally,’ Basar also said.
A high official of RUET told New Age that the registrar was suspended allegedly as he had been appointed during the tenure of the previous VC,
Sirajul Karim Chowdhury.
Chemistry department Professor Asharaful Alam has been appointed acting registrar of the university.
An official order signed by the VC said that Abul Basar was removed as per the decision of the syndicate meeting. The order, however, did not give any reason for such decision.
VC Mortuza could not be reached for his comment over phone.
