To mark the Russian day of National Heroes, on December 18, Russian Centre of Science and Culture organised a photography exhibition highlighting legendary Russian figures.
Most of the images are photographic reproductions of portraits — both black and white and colour. The photographs are mainly of Russian National Heroes, who fought for their country in different periods.
The exhibition’s main objective is to introduce the Russian heroes to the people of Bangladesh. Brief life sketches accompany the portraits at the exhibition.
Among the heroes is Alexander Matrosov — born in the City of Dnepro-petrovsk (Ukraine). When Germany attacked the Soviet Union in 1941, he was drafted to the Red Army. Gheorghy K. Zhukov was a field marshal in the Red Army. Mikhail I. Kutuzov was also a field marshal in the Russian army. He was born in Saint Petersburg in 1745. In 1759 Kutuzov joined the Russian army. He participated in Polish (1764-1769) and Turkish campaigns. He lost his left eye while storming the Turkish Fortress of Ismail on the bank of the Dnieper River.
Prince Alexander was the chief executive (Prime Minister) of the Novgorod Republic appointed by popular vote. In the battle at Neva River in 1240 his army protected his country from the invading Swedes. Pyotr I. Bagration was a Russian general. He joined the Russian army in 1782. He won recognition for his tremendous bravery in the siege of the City of Ochakov in 1788, Italian and Swiss campaigns of 1799, battles of Eylau, Heilsberg, Friedland 1807. He was killed in the Borodino Battle in 1812.
The exhibition ends on December 24.
