Saif Hassan and Salman Hossain will get very little consolation as the debut centuries of both the youngsters of Cricket Coaching School went in vain against Prime Bank Cricket Club in their Dhaka Premier League match on Tuesday. The 17-year old Saif Hasan scored 100 and 19-year old Salman hit 110 to make a 195-run partnership but the astounding failure of the other batsmen saw CCS finish on 252-7 chasing Prime’s 257 to be beaten by five runs at BKSP.
Man of the match Salman struck eight boundaries and three sixes in his 137-ball innings and Saif hit seven boundaries and three sixes in his 129-ball innings before he was out in the first ball of the 45th over.
CCS needed 50 runs off 35 balls at that stage but no other batsman could make the impetus and even Salman was perished in the penultimate ball to leave his captain and former Bangladesh captain Rajin Saleh needing six off the last ball.
But the veteran could score no run against Rubel Hossain, who was the pick of the bowler with 3-48, let alone a sixer in that ball.
Earlier in the day, holders Prime Bank got off to a good start after they won the toss as opners Shenaz Ahmed (36) and Mehedi Maruf made a 53-run stand. But the CCS bowlers took some quick wickets after getting rid of Maruf and at a stage Prime Bank were reduced to 95-5 in the 22nd over.
But Taibur Rahman, who scored 76 off 72 balls, made a 106-run stand with Yasir Ali (53) to recover the damage and eventually their side could get past 250-mark.
Nasum Ahmed got 3-45 for CCS.
Both Prime Bank and CCS lost their first round matches before playing this match.
