All-rounder Sakib al Hasan made a secret two-day visit to Bangladesh in order to rectify his batting’s shortcomings, said his mentor Mohammad Salahuddin on Saturday.
Sakib arrived on Thursday and left on Saturday as his Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders had a gap in the ongoing league. The recent performance of Sakib cast a dark shadow on his form as he failed to shine for KKR, especially with the bat, in the ongoing edition of IPL.
Sakib played five matches for KRR so far and batted on three occasions but he was hardly impressive in any one of them making 11, 6 and 3 respectively.
The southpaw was promoted at number three against Mumbai Indians but failed to capture the chance when he was caught behind to Parthiv Patel, trying to hook a short ball of Hardik Patel from outside the off-stump.
‘He came here to have some batting session,’ Sakib’s childhood coach Salahuddin told New Age on Saturday.
‘His recent batting form seems to be a matter of concern for him so he wanted to complete some drills that is expected to give him some kind of confidence,’ Salahuddin said, without trying to elaborate any further of his closed-door session with the leading all-rounder of the world.
The batting form of Sakib is a matter of concern for quite some time as he frequently failed to blaze with his willow on big proportion in the recent past.
Sakib scored only one half century in the ICC World Twenty20 but never looked in his usual dominating style that creates havoc to opponents.
Sakib looked to be concerned over his batting and had turned to his old mentor ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 straightaway after he returned from Pakistan Super League.
Sakib began that tournament promisingly with a half-century but could not follow it up with any more sparkling performances as he made only 75 runs in the next seven matches while with the ball only picked up three wickets all together.
