Sakib al Hasan said he took over the captaincy for the Zimbabwe series very reluctantly as he was not mentally prepared for the job.
‘I did not want to be captain until the World Cup. It was just my personal choice, nothing else. I was not prepared for the job in the Zimbabwe series,’ Sakib told reporters in his immediate reaction.
The BCB preferred Sakib to regular choice Mashrafee for the series, ending all speculation about the prestigious job.
Sakib had a long meeting with the BCB president AHM Mustafa Kamal before he finally agreed to take up the challenge.
‘It was not a question of bargaining with him [BCB president]. I have been given a job and I know I have to do it.
‘I was unprepared that’s
right but when the game starts nobody will listen whether I was prepared or not. So I will have to do my best.’ he said.
