Bangladesh all-rounder Sakib Al Hasan claimed man of the match honours as his Barbados Tridents beat the Antigua Hawksbills by 12 runs in their Caribbean Premier League T20 match on Thursday.
Sakib’s poor form from the previous match looked to continue after the Tridents chose to bat first, with the highly-rated all-rounder falling to Marlon Samuels after scoring just a single run. His teammates picked up the slack, as Shoaib Malik continued his strong form to lead Barbados with 33 off 30, and Jonathan Carter and Umar Akmal contributed 31 and 30 respectively to take Barbados to a total of 146/8. Samuels’ 2/17 made him the pick of the Hawksbills’ bowlers.
Sakib redeemed himself with the ball, conceding just 16 runs in four overs and taking the vital wicket of Ricky Ponting early in the Antigua innings. Ashley Nurse took four wickets for 28 in his three overs as the Hawksbills limped to 134/8 in their 20 overs despite Johnson Charles’ 44 off 37 at the top of the order.
The Tridents now sit atop the league table with two wins. They face the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel tonight.
