All-rounder Sakib al Hasan on Monday said he is relieved to be back in cricket and is looking forward to the forthcoming Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, where Bangladesh will start their campaign to defend their gold. Sakib, who appeared for Under-19 team against Bangladesh A team, picked up a wicket while batted with immense confidence in a match that ended in a draw at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board reduced Sakib’s six-month ban imposed on him on July 7 and announced that he will be available for national duty and domestic cricket from September 15.
Sakib was a last-minute inclusion in the Asian Games squad as he was drafted in for Sohag Gazi, who was reported for suspect bowling action in the second one-day international of the three-match series against the West Indies.
After the match Sakib spoke and shared his feelings on his comeback to cricket with the media.
‘I’m feeling good. It is even better since it was a two-day match. You always need to practise but you also need a couple of these kinds of matches to gear yourself up for the real games. As I was out of cricket for a while so I needed this match,’ said Sakib.
He added that he was a bit worried about his batting as he was away for a while and his short stay at the crease only raised his confidence.
Sakib came in as an opener in the second innings and during his 44-minute stay in the middle he scored a 34-ball 44 runs with the help of six fours and a six.
‘I was batting well in the nets. But I was worried about how I will fare in the match condition. In the first innings I was shaky but in the second innings it was better. If I can bat in one or two more innings then I don’t think there will be any more problems and everything will be fine,’ Sakib added.
