Bangladesh all-rounder Sakib al Hasan suffered a minor pain-condition injury on his left hip zone ahead of Bangladesh’s Asia Cup Twenty20 final against India at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium scheduled today. The severity of his injury will not rule him out from the final unless it is aggravated substantially although the team management decided to keep their valuable all-rounder under their medical-team observation as part of precaution.
‘It is not a severe injury and he will be able to play in the final,’ BCB physio Baizidul Islam told reporters at Mirpur on Saturday.
‘There is no problem regarding his playing in the final.
‘Yesterday he was hit by a ball in his hip zone. This is called condition injury.
‘Today we had optional practice and we decided to give him rest though he went to bat to see his condition,’ he said.
‘The injury was sustained in his hip flex zone quadriceps.
Sakib sustained the injury on Friday and received ice therapy immediately but he was seen to be uncomfortable right from the beginning since he arrived at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.
Sakib looked to be struggling to maintain his usual walking pace when he went to see the wicket along with curator Gamini De Silva and was not comfortable during his batting session prompting the management to provide him rest.
‘As he did not recover so there was some pain and that is the reason he looked uncomfortable with his current state.
‘We are keeping all our options open though we are confident he will recover by tomorrow as this kind of injury heals in very quick pace,’ said the physio.
