Sakib al Hasan’s chance of playing in the Dhaka Premier League was put into uncertainty as the Bangladesh Cricket Board is unlikely to consider his appeal before the transfer process begins. The BCB was expected to review his six-month ban today in the meeting, but it was forced to postpone the meeting because of the unavailability its president Nazmul Hasan.Nazmul will travel to Singapore today on a personal visit meaning Sakib must now wait to know his fate.
The first phase of the inter-club player transfers will be held on August 10-11.
‘I don’t think there is any chance of the board meeting before August 12,’ said BCB’s media committee chairman Jalal Yunus.
‘But there is a chance we will make a decision on Sakib in the meeting when it is held. We can’t tell you exactly when the meeting will take place. Once the decision is made I don’t think the implementation will be a problem.’
In the first phase of the transfer only pool players will participate as they will leave home for West Indies on August 13. The Tigers will not be available at home for the second phase which will be held on August 27-28.
Sakib is expected to play for defending champions Gazi Tanks, who said they would wait for the all-rounder until the last minute.
Gazi, who hope to be renamed as the Legends of Rupganj, have Sakib, opener Tamim Iqbal and paceman Rubel Hossain in their mind as pool players.
The management of Gazi Tanks is on the verge of acquiring the ownership of another club Kalabagan Cricket Academy, but Sakib is unlikely to go there. Officials said Kalabagan Academy were eying the services of Sabbir Rahman and Marshall Ayub as their pool players.
Of the 12 clubs, only seven are vying to take the pool players, which means some national players will remain without any team, unless they agree to join the low-ranking sides for a nominal remuneration.
Sources said Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Brothers Union, Victoria SC and promoted Partex and Old DOHS are yet to finalise any pool players.
Former champions Abahani Limited are taking Imrul Kayes, Anamul Haque and Ziaur Rahman. Meanwhile, Mohammedan Sporting Club have confirmed the services of Naeem Islam, Mashrafee bin Murtaza and Mohammedan Mithun.
National skipper Mushfiqur Rahim will join Mominul Haque and Shafiul Islam at Prime Doleshwar while another title contender Prime Bank picked Mahmudullah, Farhad Reza and Taskin Ahmed.
Among the senior players, Abdur Razzak, Sohag Gazi and Nasir Hossain are still without a team.
Club officials said they are unwilling to pay too much attention on the national players, who will be able to play only six to seven matches in the league.
Under a revised rule, each club will be able to field only one foreign player, which forced the officials to run after fringe players than the star names.
