Sale of sacrificial animals on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha started on Thursday in the capital with traders in large number entering into Dhaka through various points.
Two city corporations (north and south) have allowed the traders to keep the cattle in the 19 markets in October 12-16. But the traders started converging the cattle from different parts of the country ahead of the scheduled for operation of the makeshift cattle markets in the designated places.
Many buyers also started visiting the markets although the trading might start in full swing today afternoon after Jumma prayers, they said.
Shahidul Islam, a cattle trader from Kushtia, said he brought 14 bulls early Thursday at Gabtali cattle market.
He said many buyers used to buy sacrificial cattle a bit early and he came here to get those customers.
Abdul Malek, a businessman of the capital, told New Age that he would buy two bulls on Thursday as he decided to send the bulls to his village home in Mymensingh.
Many traders, however, started displaying big bulls but they were expecting that they will sell those after realisng the market situation.
Law enforcers were also seen busy keeping their eyes on the markets.
Gabtali cattle markets’s police control room in-charge subinspector Sahadat Hossain told New Age that they were monitoring the situation at the market.
Kamal Hossain, assistant commissioner, Pallabi zone, told New Age that they have additional forces at different cattle markets.
‘We’ve set up watch towers and closes-circuit cameras at different points. Besides, we’ve set up fake notes detection machines at the markets,’ he said.
