The victory fair in Chittagong crowded round as several thousand people from all walks of life stream into the fair in the Chittagong city everyday.
The fair organisers said the sale of various items in the stalls, especially handicrafts, also soared as the number of visitors increased in last few days.
The month-long ‘bijoy mela’ was launched on December 10on the Outer Stadium in Chittagong.
The fair was organised by Muktijudder Bijoy Mela Parishad 2010, headed by former Chittagong mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, also the Chittagong city Awami League president.
One of the fair management committee member said the fair is open from 8:00am to 10:00pm for the visitors.
There are five gates for the visitors to help visitors entering into the fair ground with ease, he said.
A visitor in the fair, Azad, also a student of Class VIII, said he went there with his father as his annual examinations in his schools had finished.
When asked why he has come to the fair, the father said, ‘I feel like nostalgia visiting the fair. It reminds me the childhood memories.’
A multi-national company executive said he often visit the fair to get relief from the monotonous daily life.
A visitor, who was also a freedom fighter during liberation war in 1971, said he sees the ‘bijoy fair’ as part of Bangladesh’s victory in the liberation war.
A salesman said most of the people visit the fair to buy handicrafts.
‘Handicrafts are synonymous to heritage,’ he said.
The stalls that were set up in the fair, sell clothes, handicraft, toys, glassware, wooden furniture, plastics playthings, crockery, earthenware and utensils.
Traders from across the country came to the fair to sell their products.
The fair also includes puppet show, merry-go-round circus.
A circus owned by Babu Niranjan Sarker has come from Dhaka to the fair to entertain people.
Afsar Talukder, a member of the fair organising committee, said they had taken all necessary steps to make the fair a success.
Screening of films on liberation war would also continue till December 24, he said.
