Young singers presented popular songs composed by two great musicians- Samar Das (1929-2001) and Dhir Ali Miah (1925-1984) as part of the programme series titled Bishishto Jonder

A large audience attended the programme on Wednesday
at Music and Dance Centre.The cultural session began with compositions by Samar Das. Das’ repertory, teems with patriotic numbers. Shakila Suraiya presented Das’ Tara edesher sabuj dhaner sheeshe, as well as the popular romantic number Tondra hara noyono amar.
Other songs, composed by Das such as Tumi sandhya akasher tarar moto amar mone jolbe presented by Yusuf Ali Khan, and famous patriotic numbers like Bhebonago maa tomar chhelera by Swastika Podder, Purba digante surjo uthechhe and Nongor tolo tolo were rendered in chorus by members of Kranti Shilpi Goshthi.
Dhir Ali Mia’s folk-based compositions were presented by popular singers like Abu Bakar Siddiqi, Anima Mukti Gomes and others. Siddiqi presented Mia’s romantic numbers Thakbo na ar ei abeshe, Basonti rong saree pore; while Gomes presented Mone je lage eto rong and Maya dore bandha poira.
Earlier, noted composer Sujeyo Shyam and Sohrab Hossain, director of Music and Dance Centre of BSA, delivered speeches at the programme presided over by Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of BSA.
The speakers highlighted the remarkable contribution of Samar Das and Dhir Ali Mia to the country’s music arena. They also spoke of preserving their popular tracks in the archive of BSA.
