Samsung Electronics, a South Korean multinational electronics corporation, yesterday launched a new line of televisions in Bangladesh through an event in Dhaka.
The latest models that come with cutting-edge technology, smart features and innovative designs are being locally manufactured by two companies, namely Transcom Limited and Fair Electronics.
Shahriar Bin Lutfor, director and head of business at the consumer electronics wing of Samsung Bangladesh, said televisions were once a luxury item but that is no longer the case as peoples’ needs are changing every day.
“In line with this, new features are being added to the latest models,” he added.
The latest “B Series” televisions feature the company’s newest innovations, which will help transform the consumers’ visual experience.
Lutfor went on to say that throughout the years, Samsung has incorporated new technologies with out-of-the-box ideas to curate the best television experience for everyone.
“Meeting a wider range of customer demands has been a top priority for Samsung,” he said.
Hwansung Woo, country manager of Samsung Bangladesh, said the number of television buyers has increased worldwide. Considering the demands of the customers, Samsung has added advanced technology and several smart features to its new models.
The price of these new models of Samsung televisions range from Tk 20,000 to Tk 12 lakh.
Although there is no credible source for the market data on television sales, industry insiders say it is around 15 lakh units annually, which is worth nearly Tk 5,000 crore.
They said before the Covid-19 pandemic, annual growth in the sector was 10 to 15 per cent. However, growth has remained stagnant for the last two years.
Samsung Electronics, founded in 1969, quickly became a major manufacturer in the Korean market. This soon expanded to Samsung becoming a leading global brand that has been manufacturing televisions for the last 16 years.
