Kumar Sangakkara, the pivotal Sri Lankan wicketkeeper batsman was in a realistic mood after his team inflicted a two wicket victory over Bangladesh on Friday. The man of the final with his hardworking 59 said, the greatest lesson he took from this match was in cricket ‘A match is not over until it is really over,’ said Sangakkara.
The modest Sri Lankan thought, Muralitharan should have won the man of the final award.
Sangakkara gave all the credit to his team for the hard fought win. ‘Sri Lankan team showed their character, we showed that we can fight, but we have to try to win matches more convincingly’.
Sangakkara was also modest about his feat. ‘There was no secret, it was just batting and try to get as close of the score as possible, we rarely see such a collapse in our batting because we have got some of the best batsmen in the world but this type of things happen in cricket and some other guys have to take responsibilities and it does not matter who scores the runs because to win, we have to score. The key is to try to fight it out and bat for a long time, trying to make a good innings from it.
Sangakkara was amazed with the effort of Murali. He played an amazing innings. It was fantastic, I honestly believe, he should have been the man of the match.
There’s no doubt that he came into the field with a target, Bangladesh had just made a comeback into the game with two quick wickets, and Murali scored 30 of 12 balls and won the game for us, not with the bowling but with his batting, so it was amazing,’ concluded Sangakkara.
