Popular theatre troupe Sanglap Group Theatre celebrated its 36th founding anniversary and staged one of its well-known plays Badnam to mark the occasion at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday evening.
Sanglap Group Theatre’s Badnam is an adaptation of a short story of Tagore with the same title. Directed and adapted by Mostafa Hira, the play depicts the story of a common Bengali housewife who eventually transforms into a rebel, as she fights against the unjust rule of the British colonizers during the British raj era.
Badnam, wiich is the 23rd production of Sanglap, casts Walid Ahmed Rana, Safia Afrin Monalisa, Selina Akter Priya, Mohammad Mainul Islam, Mohammad Habibur Rahman, Shakil Ahmed, Masud Alam Babu, Mostafizur Rahman Ripon, Prema, and many others in different roles.
Zunaid Yousuff has done the set and light design of the production while Selina Akter Priya is credited for the music of the production.
Former and present members of the troupe had a get together on the same evening in celebration of the founding anniversary.
Established on June 18, 1982, the troupe has so far produced 23 productions, of which Pychal, Manab Surat, Shoroshi, Badnam and Prastuti are well known amongst play enthusiasts.
