Left-arm spinner Saqlain Sajib continued to torment the Zimbabwe ‘A’ batsmen after yet another five-wicket haul as Bangladesh A team were scenting a victory at the end of third day of their first four-day match at the Cox’s Bazar Stadium on Wednesday. Saqlain finished with 6-50 in the second innings in addition to his record 9-82 in the first, which is also a first-class record for any Bangladeshi bowler, finished the match with 15-132.
The Zimbabwe A team batsmen were helpless in front of his deadly spin bowling, only to be bundled out for a paltry 108 in 48.2 overs, that gave the hosts a huge chance of going 1-0 up in the two-match four-day series.
Bangladesh were 43-1 at the close of third day’s play, requiring another 61 runs with nine wickets in hand on the final day.
Earlier, resuming their first innings at 131-3, Bangladesh took a slim five-run lead on the first innings as they collapsed to 211 all out in 120.4 overs largely due to Wellington Masakadza’s 6-63.
But the hosts had other ideas with Saqlain in supreme form, who dominated the proceedings with the cherry once he was introduced and he gave the visitors a lot trouble with his leg-spin that extracted turn and bounce from the newly-laid wicket at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium.
