The Supreme Court (SC) yesterday gave permission to the Jamuna Television (JTV) authorities to file an appeal with SC challenging the High Court (HC) verdict that upheld the government decision to cancel frequency allocation to JTV and to stop its test transmission.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque passed the order after holding hearing on a leave-to-appeal petition filed by the JTV authorities recently.
Bangladesh Telecommuni-cation Regulatory Commission (BTRC) authorities, on November 19 last year, halted transmission and allocation of frequency to JTV on charge of running its operation without having any license and No Objection Certificate (NOC).
The HC on May 20 this year justified this decision of the government, following which the JTV authorities filed the leave-to-appeal petition with the apex court.
Barrister Rafique-ul Huq and Barrister Ajmalul Hossain appeared for the petitioner, while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the government.
JTV, a private satellite television channel, went on test transmission on October 15 last year.
