The annual election to Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for its 14 executive posts including the president and secretary will be held on March 30 and 31.
In all 2,302 lawyers of the Supreme Court have been registered as voters in the country’s prime bar association polls, SCBA Secretary Md Bodruddoza Badal told The Daily Star.
The SCBA executive committee at a meeting on February 15 has officially fixed the schedule for the elections, he said.
According to sources, the main battle in the polls would be between the panels of ruling Awami League-backed Bangladesh Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parishad (BSASP) and the main opposition BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum (BJAF).
Both the forums of lawyers have almost finalised their panels to contest in the election, said the sources.
From BSASP side, senior lawyer and former SCBA president Abdul Baset Majumder will run for president, SM Abul Hossain forsecretary, KM Saifuddin Ahmed and AKM Jaglul Haider Afrik for two posts of vice president, Jasmin Sultana for treasurer, SM Zahirul Islam and SM Masud Hossain Dolon for two posts of assistant secretary, and Jasmin Aktar Keya, Shovana Parvin Shova, Anwar Hossain Reza, Bahar Uddin Al Razi, and Sanchita Saha for executive members.
The BSASP is yet to declare names of candidates for two remaining posts out of seven posts for executive members.
BJAF candidates are senior lawyer and incumbent SCBA President Khandaker Mahbub Hossain for president, incumbent Secretary Md Bodruddoza Badal for secretary, Md Asadullah and Md Ibrahim Mollah for two posts of vice president, Fahima Nasrin Munni for treasurer, AHM Qamruzzaman Mamun and Golam Noor Tarun for two posts of assistant secretary, and SM Muktar Kabir Khan, Rafiqul Islam Talukder, Shawkat Ara Dulali, Delwara Habib, Shahidul Islam, Marjina Raihan Madina, and Ashrarul Haque for the seven posts of executive member.
The candidates have already started their voting campaigns.
