The Standard Chartered Young Tigers Under-16 National Cricket Tournament will begin on January 25 in Dhaka.
A total of 540 schools from across the country will be participating for this year’s coveted title. Runners-up Willes Little Flower School will take on Badda High School in the opening match at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium.
Standard Chartered Bank CEO Jim McCabe, Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Manzur Ahmed and BCB game development committee member Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury were present at a press conference in a city hotel yesterday to detail this year’s event. The sponsors, Standard Chartered Bank, have handed over Tk 85 lakhs to the BCB.
“We are proud that some players, who have graduated through this tournament in the past, are in the current national team. I would like to thank the BCB for providing us with this opportunity to support the development of youth cricket,” said McCabe.
“We hope that this tournament will be more successful in bringing out real talent and provide them the platform to become successful cricketers,” he added.
Revealing the plan from this tournament, Jalal Ahmed said, “We will pick the talented players and build a National School Team which will play in international tournaments.”
