Barisal Government Zilla School students blocked road in front of the school as a schoolboy was stabbed allegedly by some Barisal University students near the campus Thursday noon. The victim was Safayet Hossain Sifat, 14, a Class VII student of the school.
Witnesses said some young men attacked and stabbed Sifat and fled the scene at about 11:45am while he was going to school.
He was taken to Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital immediately and later the police handed him over to the family.
The victim’s father, Rafikul Islam, alleged that the attacker were from Barisal University.
After the incident, agitated school students holding demonstration blocked the road and demanded immediate transfer of the temporary BU campus from the Zilla school compound.
Earlier on Monday, the BU students attacked the Zilla School campus in presence of the BU teachers after a school student alleged teased a university girl, said the school sources.
The guardians asked the school authorities to call an emergency meeting with the managing committees of the institutions.
The school head-teacher, Sabina Yasmin, acknowledging the incident, said a meeting would be called after completion of the ongoing PSC and JSC model tests.
The additional deputy commissioner, Wahiduzzaman, visiting the campus, said transferring BU from the school compound depended on the decision of the higher authorities.
The BU vice-chancellor, Professor Harun-or-Rashid, said if the attackers were identified as the BU students, the authorities would take action against them.
