Denied by the parents in love affair, a schoolboy killed himself by jumping into the Hatirjheel Lake from a bridge at Badda in the capital on Friday morning. His lover, Mim, 15, who also jumped into the lake alongside Tonmoy, 16, however, survived. Quoting the girl Mim, 15, police said Tonmoy and Mim both were students of class X in Provati Bidda Niketan School located at Dilu Road of Maghbazar area in the city. They developed a love affair in last one and half years, but their parents did not approve of this relation. The parents of Mim arranged the marriage of their daughter with another boy, which was to take place on January 10. Learning about the decision of Mim’s parents, both the lover decided to commit suicide on Thursday. Tanmay and Mim did not return home from school on that day.
As they did not return home Father to Tonmy on Thursday night filed a general diary (GD) with Ramna Police Station in connection with the incident, Sub-inspector Refayet Ara Sultana told The Independent. According to the decision Tonmoy and Mim passed whole night at Hatirjheel area on Thursday night and at around 4:45am on Friday they went to one of the bridges in Badda area and jumped together in the lake to commit suicide. Both Tonmoy and Mim do not know how to swim. Locals noticed two floating bodies in the lake and informed the police who later recovered the body of Tanmoy. Police rescued Mim in an unconscious state. The body of Tanmoy sent to Dhaka Medical Collage Hospital morgue for post mortem. An unnatural death case was filed with Badda police station in this connection.
