A four-man Scotland Yard team that arrived here yesterday will not investigate the BDR carnage but advise law-enforcing agencies here as to how the UK would conduct investigation into a matter of this magnitude. “They are not here to solve the
crime-that role must sit rightly with the Bangladeshi law-enforcement agencies. The UK team is here to offer the benefit of our own experience,” British High Commissioner Stephen Evans told a press briefing at Lakeshore Hotel this afternoon.
The High Commissioner said they are very senior experienced officers from the UK’s Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard) and they will share their experiences with the Bangladeshi law-enforcing agencies.
Asked if they would provide technical assistance for the investigation, Evans said if any specific request is made, the British government would look into that.
“We got to see what emerges from the discussions between the Scotland Yard team and officers of Bangladeshi law-enforcing agencies. If there is specific request, we will look into that.”
The diplomat would not name the team members as he said these officers work in a sensitive area.
The team has already met with CID officers and visited the haunted BDR compound where a substantial number of army officers were killed during the February 25-26 mayhem. They were scheduled to meet in the evening the two-member American FBI team that has already seen through what happened inside the headquarters of the border force.
The Scotland Yard cops plan to depart on Saturday morning.
