Government officials and experts at a seminar on Saturday stressed the importance of better understanding and clarity of the gender policy and various approaches to address gender issues.
The women and children affairs ministry and North South University jointly organised the seminar on the gender policy in Bangladesh: strategies, constraints and challenges at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the capital, said a press release.
The speakers also stressed the need for reviewing the existing gender policy, identifying and assessing the problems with the existing gender-related rules and regulations and its implementation.
Information Commission Bangladesh commissioner Sadeka Halim attended the seminar as the chief guest.
The seminar was attended, among others, by women affairs secretary Tariq-ul-Islam, food secretary Mushfeka Ikfat, directorate of women affairs director general Md Ashraf Hossain, MPPG programme coordinator Khaliquzzaman M Elias, adviser M Aminuzzaman, associate professor Sk Tawfique M Haque, NSU vice-chancellor Amin U Sarkar, board of trustee Rehana Rahman and Dhaka University women and gender studies former chairman Nazmunnessa Mahtab.
