Marking the 44th death anniversary of Dhaka University student leader Md Asaduzzaman who sacrificed his life during the 1969 mass upsurge, different organisations yesterday observed the Shaheed Asad Day.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Bangladesh Jatiya Chhatra Dal, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Jatiya Gonotantrik League, National Awami Party (NAP-Bhasani), also placed wreaths at Asad memorial at Dhaka Medical College.
Asaduzzaman was a student of History department of Dhaka University, president of DU unit and general secretary of Dhaka city unit of East Pakistan Chhatra’ Union (Menon group). He died on January 20 in 1969 when police opened fire on a procession before Dhaka Medical College Hospital protesting the Pakistani military regime’s repression on Banglaees.
NAP-Bhasani and Jatiya Gonotantrik League organised a discussion in the NAP central office to mark the day. Mostak Ahmed Bhasani, chairman of NAP, spoke at the event.
Speakers at a discussion organised by Bangladesh Jatiya Chhatra Dal said the main objective behind Asad’s sacrifice was to establish a democratic state and a government of labourers and farmers.
