A teacher of Rabindra Sangeet at Dhaka University Shahnaz Nasrin Ila entertained the audience presenting different genres of Tagore songs in her solo on Friday at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Gulshan.
The singer presented 17 Rabindra Sangeet and two DL Roy’s songs in her one and half hours show.
The evening began with presentation of a very popular romantic song Borisho dhora majh-e from the nature part of Gitobitan, the Tagore’s collection of lyrics.
With her soulful voice modulation the skilled singer incorporated the urge for love while rendering one after another popular romantic songs like Sudhasagar teerey, Kotobaro bhebechhinu, Majhey majhey tabo dekha pai, Tomar khola hawa, Amar hiar majhe and others.
The audience also enjoyed her presentation of DL Roy’s songs like Ami sara sakalti bose bose and Aji tomar kache vasia jai.
The show ended with presentation of a very popular Tagore’s patriotic song titled O amar desher mati.
Shahnaz Nasrin Ila was trained in Rabindra Sangeet at the prestigious Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata under the ICCR Scholarship programme. She is also popular as singer of contempoirary and traditional Bangla songs.
Ila has performed in several Rabindra Sangeet concerts at home. Internationally, she has performed in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Thailand.
At present she is the chairperson of the music department of Dhaka University.
