The Bangladesh Cricket Board selectors named their 28-man preliminary squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand on Thursday, with Shahriar Nafees and Shahadat Hossain at the top of the list of notable omissions. Both players had been on the original 30-man preliminary squad named on June 11 and had been expected to remain on the squad, but poor recent form appears to have forced them to make way for a number of fresh faces.
Pace bowler Al-Amin Hossain, who registered consecutive five-wicket hauls for Abahani Limited to kick off the Dhaka Premier League this month, was named to a national team preliminary squad for the first time, as were Soumya Sarker, Noor Hossain and Mukhtar Ali.
Sabbir Rahman will again be in the mix to make his international debut, and veteran spinner Enamul Haque Jr returns to the fold after being left off the initial squad.
Marshall Ayub remains on the squad and will look to make his international debut, having been one of the few regulars on the Bangladesh A team that toured England last month to not have made an appearance for the Tigers. Mehrab Hossain Jr and Farhad Reaza have been recalled in the preliminary squad after long gap.
Mosharraf Hossain, who was on the original 30-man list but has since been suspended as he faces investigation for his alleged role in the Bangladesh Premier League match-fixing scandal, was left off the preliminary squad.
Selectors also named a 14-member squad for a three-day warm-up
match against the visitors from October 4-6 in Chittagong
