Shakib Al Hasan might have only made 14 in his final county innings of the season but his team Worcestershire set themselves on course for promotion into Division One of the County Championship, beating Sussex by four wickets yesterday.
Worcestershire’s promotion would depend on the result of the match between Derbyshire and Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens where the match was at a knife’s edge when the report was last filed.
On the final day of the season’s final game, Shakib had little to do as Worcestershire were set 301 to win by their opponents at the New Road county ground. The hosts made 306-6 with Alex Kervezee hitting Monty Panesar for a six to reach the winning target.
Opener James Cameron (105) and Moeen Ali (115) struck quickfire centuries as the hosts hurried to their target.
Shakib only bowled four overs in the second innings as Sussex romped to 264-4 in 44.3 overs in the second innings. He fell to Panesar on the final day, clean bowled after the left-hander had struck two boundaries off 28 balls.
Shakib is set to return to Dhaka on September 18.
