At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Shakira won the award for Best Latin Pop Album and dedicated her win to US immigrants. Presented by Jennifer Lopez, the Colombian pop star said, “I want to dedicate this award to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country. You are loved, you are worth it, and I will always fight with you.”
The event, hosted for the fifth consecutive year by comedian Trevor Noah, took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
In addition to celebrating musical talent, this year’s Grammys also supported ongoing relief efforts for music professionals affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, rising star Chappell Roan was named Best New Artist, surpassing fellow nominee Sabrina Carpenter. In her impactful acceptance speech, Roan advocated for improved financial and healthcare support for emerging artists.
“I told myself if I ever won a Grammy and stood in front of the most influential people in music, I would demand that labels and the industry, which make millions off artists, provide a livable wage and healthcare, especially for developing artists,” she stated, earning a standing ovation. Smith described Jones as “a brilliant, 28-time Grammy Award-winning producer, arranger, film and television composer, conductor, trumpet player, recording artist, and humanitarian.”
This tribute was followed by a moving performance led by Stevie Wonder, accompanied by Herbie Hancock on piano and a choir of young singers from Palisades Charter High and Pasadena Waldorf School—both of which were affected by the recent wildfires.
Other musical highlights featured a mesmerizing rendition of “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish and Finneas, whose signature melancholic harmonies captivated the audience.
